M&T Winter League Rd 1, Swords

A great outing in Swords, thanks to the hard work of Fingallians, supervised by Dolores and her crew. Special thanks to "Athletics Official of the Year" the great Harry Gorman, who was our starter. Truly we are not worthy!
Taking an early lead once the two-mile race started around Balheary Playing Fields was Mary Finn of Sportsworld. She was quickly caught by Anne Ormsby, who runs these races and no others and has made them her own over the past year or so.
Mary Finn held out for second place with Bronagh Snow of Fingallians third. Fourth was Louise Keogh of Blackrock, with former high jumper Breda Browne making a comeback to cross-country running and finishing fifth for the Sportsworld B team, ahead of her team mate Sarah McAteer. Among those in action was Josie Power of Fingallians, who had run for the Irish W55 team a day earlier in Stormont, winning team silver.
Next race is in Lucan on Sunday December 9, followed by Terenure on January 20 and the final race hosted by Raheny in St Anne's Park on a February date to be confirmed.
Although a fantastic crowd of over a hundred (from Blackrock, Donore and Crusaders, as well as the clubs already mentioned) turned out, a few prominent clubs were missing.
Most notable of these was Clonliffe (probably still celebrating after being voted "Club of the Year" the night before), Dunboyne, Dublin Striders, Tallaght and Dunboyne; not to mention Raheny.
Come on girls - these runs are for YOU! A great way of keeping fit and motivated over the winter with all standards welcome.
