Donore's Andrea a winner in Swords (results now up)

Andrea Flanagan, who only joined the Donore Harriers Meet and Train group a month or so ago, won the second Winter League  race hosted by Fingalians AC in Swords today.
Dunboyne's Deirdre Fitzsimons had made the early pace, closely followed by Breda Brown of Sportsworld, who admitted afterwards  that for a few heady moments, she had been under the uillusion that she was 27 again!
Not far off the pace was Eileen Thoma of Dunboyne, making a return to Meet and Train racing.
The early leaders soon started to feel the pace and, in the end, Andrea stormed through for a decisive win in 13 minutes 4 seconds  - a big improvement on her seventh place in the season's opener.

Eileen Thoma finished a fighting second with Aisling McDonagh of Donore a close third on a great day for the Chapelizod-based club. In fairness, quite a few "regulars" were in the Curragh at the National Novice Cross-Country (one Dunboyne athlete ran both races!, while the season of parties was also taking its toll.

Iseult first home in Raheny - team result added

Guest runner Iseult O'Donnell of host club Raheny Shamrock came home first in the opening round of the Women's Meet and Train Winter League held on a bright sunny morning in St Anne's Park, Raheny.
Iseult, a promising junior track athlete, took the lead on the second of three laps.
Her time of  14 minutes 10 seconds for two miles put her 21 seconds ahead of Donore's Sinead McAuley. In third place was Freda Comiskey of Lucan while fourth and fifth were Sportsworld teammates Amy Wright and Shona Keane. With Karen Behan of Donore in sixth place, the battle for the team placings between Sportsworld and Donore is sure to be close.

Among the record entry of close to a hundred were representatives of Clonliffe Harriers, Fingallians, Dunboyne, Crusaders, Tallaght, Bros Pearse and Raheny.
Big thanks to John "The Drake" Fitz,  Sean McG and all their sidekicks from Raheny who put on a superb show.Also to Mary Butler of Blackrock for getting the results sorted so quickly.
Next round of the league (all races just two miles; novices welcome) is at Swords on Sunday December 11; reg Fingallians GAA club.

Women's Mini Marathon in Moldova

Outreach Moldova (ORM) hosts its second Women’s Mini Marathon in Moldova on Mon Sept 11 . This year over 400 special needs children will participate in a 10K run to raise funds for the care of orphaned and abandoned children in Moldova. Last year's run/walk raised almost €5k for their programme. This year the target is €50k. Donate online at www.mycharity.ie/event/mini_marathon_and_u. October 9 is the date for this year's second RunHer 10km and 5km at the Stormont Estate in Belfast - the biggest women's only run in Northern Ireland.
In May, the first run this year attracted almost a thousand women and groups or individuals from the Republic are cordially invited to travel up on the day or make a weekend of it. So what are you waiting for?

Ruth Kelly turned the tables on her Sportsworld teammate Rachael Mannion when she won the final Summer League race over four miles at Raheny. In Tallaght, Rachael had just out-sprinted Ruth for victory.
Despite the squally conditions, times on this course, which consisted of four laps of the All Saints' lap, were good, with the winneing time around 26 minutes and many others achieving their aim of breaking 40 minutes and so qualifying for a runners' number in the Flora Women's Mini Marathon in a fortnight's time. A few newcomers to Meet & Train also turned up and hopefully enjoyed themselves.

Race 3 Raheny - all welcome

Meet & Train Summer League race 3 (4 miles) takes place this Sunday May 22 (11am) in Raheny. Registration in the Cara Hall, All Saints' Road from 10am.
Looking forward to seeing all our regulars - and if there's anybody out there who has not competed in the league so far and would like to join in, you are more than welcome to come along and run as an individual €7.The race is ideal practice for the Flora Women's Mini Marathon just two weeks later.

Rachael Edges It - Just

Rachael Mannion just outsprinted her Sportsworld team mate Ruth Kelly to win the second race in this year's Meet & Train Summer League held in Tymon Park Tallaght. The two girls were given the same time - that's how close it was.
On a day when blustering winds made running difficult, the three-mile route around the park's many paths proved quite demanding.
It was a first Meet & Train race to be hosted by Tallaght for many years and an eye-opener. The club not only has Tymon park on its doorstep, but has a full eight-lane tartan track and beautiful club house.
* Finishing 11th in the race was Michelle Carroll, the pioneer of Irish sprinting, whose 100m, 200m and 400m records stood for over two decades. Michelle keeps fit by running with the Tallaght girls.
* Big thanks to everyone in Tallaght on a great job!

Tallaght to Host Rd 2 Summer League

Round 2 of the Meet & Train Summer League - a three mile race - will take place in Tallaght on Sunday May 8 (11.30am - note later time!). Registration Tallaght AC clubhouse on Greenhills Road; entry €7.
* The annual Dublin 5-Mile Classic organised by our friends in Sportsworld takes place on Sunday May 15 (10am). Entry €15. See www.sportsworld-terenure.ie. That's followed by the Tom Byrne Memorial 5km on Sun May 22 (11am), organised by Lucan Harriers, and the Donore Summer 5km on Saturday May 28 (11am).

Summer League - Race 1 Results

A well-organised race hosted by Crusaders for the first of the M&T road series. The two mile race was all off road - on paths out to and around the Nature Reserve at Irishtown, in sunny, slightly misty conditions.

Sportsworld dominated with Ruth Kelly coming home first ahead of Ciara Foster and Rachel Mannion. First individual was Deirdre Fitzsimons in 20th place.
Teams from Sportsworld, Fingallians, Tallaght, Donore, Blackrock and Crusaders all took part, with 82 finishers.
Next two races are pencilled in for Sunday May 8 at Tallaght (3 miles) and Wednesday May 1 in Phoenix Park (4 miles). Watch this space!
