Santry - the Real Deal

They're off - see posting below this for a selection of images.

Yes, it was tough - but the final race of the 2006/7 adidas Meet & Train Winter League at Santry was the real deal. Mud, slog, wet, wind, ups and downs - what cross country is all about!
Ann Ormsby of Fingallians, who took up running five years ago and only runs Meet & Train and the mini marathon, had a brilliant win over host club Clonliffe's Ailish McDermott. With Bronagh Snow in third place, Fingallians were first team in the diamond section, while Blackrock got the Club of the Series trophy. Blackrock's Mary Butler was first veteran and first over 50 overall; Eithne Reid of Lucan was first over 40, and Hilary Wright of Crusaders first over 55, with another Crusader Marcella Dune taking a special prize.
Big thanks to all who helped make this one of the most successful series yet: the clubs who hosted the four races; the stewards; the tea ladies (and gentlemen!); Paul from adidas, the most undemanding of sponsors; Harry our starter and Mary our results wizard. Plus of course, Sue and Mary, without whom...

Last Race - and Summer League

Final race in the Women's Meet and Train Winter League will take place at Santry Demesne (the park behind the stadium) on Sunday February 25 (11am). Reg in the Clonliffe club house at the front of the stadium.
A general meeting to finalise dates for the Summer League will take place on Wednesday March 7 at Donore Sportscentre 8pm (Note change!).
The Summer Series, again supported by adidas, acts as a build-up to the Women's Mini Marathon on the June Bank Holiday Monday. That means races of 2 miles, 3 miles and 4 miles; in the past, there was also the Fingallians Ladies 8k, now sadly defunct because of traffic. But on the bright side, the Sportsworld Dublin 5 Mile Classic takes place later these days - this year, it's on Sunday May 13.
Anyway, we invite members of all M&T groups, old and new, to attend this meeting so we can sort out dates and any other business. M&T is pretty informal in its structure and depends on members to undertake a job or two over the year; this year, for instance, Mary Butler from Blackrock is doing the results; Mary McDermott and Sue Lynch from Donore continue to do lots of fiddly things. Karen Marriott from Crusaders is liaising with adidas, Patricia and Paddy from Blackrock and Paddy from Sportsworld are always on hand to help out on race days.
The work isn't hard and the races are good fun, so if there is anything you could do - or if you have any ideas - come along to Donore on Wednesday March 7.

Pics from Irishtown

Above us in misty Irishtown today was a flock of Brent geese trying to find their way somewhere or other after the long journey from Canada.
They passed over once and then came back, clearly using us brightly dressed "birds" below as a navigation guide. Or maybe they were just curious!
Taking pictures in such conditions proved a challenge - the good news is that the several Tallaght singlets really stood out, as did the one from Liffey Valley. Anyway here's a selection. Hope you all had a good day out in Irishtown!
Top Ten Finishers:
1 Kathleen O'Callaghan (Sportsworld A) 12.16
2 Ann Ormsby (Fingallians A) 12.28
3 Ailish McDermott (Clonliffe A) 12.36
4 Orla McEvoy (Crusaders) 12.54
5 Aoibheann Tierney (Tallaght) 13.03
6 Tara Whyte (Clonliffe A) 13.04
7 Orlagh Fleming (Sportsworld A) 13.06
8 Bronagh Snow (Fingallians) 13.07
